ComputingFest
is the annual Spring programming project competition held by the
Department of Computer
Science of the Eric Jonsson School of Engineering at UTD. The purpose
of ComputingFest is to create opportunities for our students to
demonstrate their capabilities and creativity in an appreciative
environment.
During its early years,
the competition has been focused on UTD Undergraduates within
the CS Department. Recently, it was decided to open the competition to
participants from local area high
schools and community colleges. So please feel welcomed and encouraged
to participate in ComputingFest.
The competition
features five 'competition tracks'. Seniors at UTD will compete in
Track 1, Juniors in Track 2, Community College students and Sophomores
in Track 3, Freshmen in Track 4 and High School students in track 5. Using
this approach everybody has a chance to win and is assured of being
recognized by their peers and colleagues.
ComputingFest is a
judged event in which participants present the computer programming
projects of their choice; games, network analysis visualizations,
control systems and algorithmic analysis projects have all won prizes
in previous competitions. The submitted project may be the work
of a single individual or of a team.
The judging
criteria at ComputingFest focuses on originality, software design and
engineering techniques employed, and the presentation clarity, style
and technique. This is a wonderful opportunity for the beginning
computer scientist, software engineer or visionary to "strut their
stuff" in a supportive engineering environment.
Prizes
are awarded in each Track of competition for the first, second and
third place finishers. After the competition is completed all
participants are invited to the ComputingFest Feast, an awards ceremony
put on by the UTD@ACM in which students, professors and guests can
relax and enjoy being engineers while exchanging views on the various
presentations.
